Problem Gambling
When gambling venues were expanding in the Province of Ontario, it was known that a percentage of the population may develop a problem with gambling. The Provincial Government committed resources to the establishment of a fully funded system for the research, prevention and treatment of problem gambling.
CMHA HPE is funded to provide direct community counselling/treatment services for problem gambling in Hastings and Prince Edward County.
Counselling/Treatment Services Provided Include:
- Initial and ongoing assessment
- Treatment planning
- Case management activities
- Brief intervention
- Lifestyle and personal counselling
- Relapse Prevention
- Family intervention
- Follow-up and aftercare
- Outreach activities – early intervention
Services are designed to assist the individual to develop skills to manage gambling and related problems, and/or maintain and enhance treatment goals.
Services typically offered in office, however, may be offered in a variety of settings including outreach to the service recipient’s home, school, or other service setting.
Referral Process:
Anyone concerned about their gambling can access services regardless of their stage of change can access addictions and mental health support by connecting to AccessMHA Regional Coordinated Access to make an online referral.
Family/Significant Others:
If concerned about someone else’s gambling you can call CMHA HPE directly for information and referrals for further assistance.
Health Promotion or Education – Problem Gambling
CMHA HPE is also funded to promote health, and educating the community including public, professions and other sectors about the impact on health of individuals and populations related to problem gambling.
